Description

This historic British airways menu, from the first ever transatlantic flight by a world leader, is signed by the legendary Winston Churchill. Encapsulated and graded by PSA/DNA as “MINT 9.” The menu is signed not only by Winston Churchill, but also members of his war cabinet, flight crew, and his personal physician.

Within days of the surprise Pearl Harbor attack on December 7th 1941, Prime Minister Churchill undertook a dangerous transatlantic journey on the Royal Navy battleship HMS Duke of York to the United States. On December 26th, Churchill gave his historic address to the US Congress to win support for his concept of war. He emphasized his “bulldog” fighting spirit, but in private, the strain was taking a its toll.

That very evening, Churchill suffered a mild heart attack in the White House. To save him from the strenuous journey home, he decided to fly back to Great Britain on British Airlines, making this flight the first ever transatlantic flight by a world leader. Winston Churchill was later quoted as saying, “There is no doubt about the comfort of these great flying boats.” This is a truly exclusive artifact of British, WWII and aviation history.
