Mary Blair Suzzie the Little Blue Coupe Original Development Concept Painting (Walt Disney, 1952). This is a remarkable original work rendered masterfully in gouache on board from the unmistakable hand of the great Mary Blair (1911 - 1978). A stunning image from this incredible short film which inspired John Lassiter in his creation of the modern Pixar film Cars! In addition to the anthropomorphized cars with eyes as a windshield, the city scape with its industrial elements and pollution during the time of the making of this film in 1952 speaks to the future as only Mary Blair can!

Ms. Blair was one of Walt Disney's favorite artist, he actually hung one of her paintings in his office. The detail in this artwork is astonishing as always, a true gem. Of her unique and adept sense of color, Disney Legend Inductee and one of Disney's "Nine Old Men" Marc Davis said, "[Mary Blair] was the most amazing colorist of all time. I don't think even Matisse could hold a candle to her -- and I mean that very sincerely. She could put colors together and they would just sing."

In the book Magic, Color, Flair: The World of Mary Blair by John Canemaker, he writes, "After suffering difficult postwar years (1945-50), the Disney Studio came roaring back with three blockbuster feature-length cartoons destined to become classics. Mary Blair played a significant role in each film as a designer and especially as a Colorist."

Pinholes in the corners from its days in the Disney Studio, with minor handling wear and typical edge debris.
